The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) announced that it approved $400,000 to help Floridians with housing-related needs in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael’s destruction in the Panhandle. The funds come from NAR’s Realtors Relief Foundation (RRF), a charitable organization “dedicated to providing housing-related assistance to victims of disasters.”
RRF is completely separate from Florida Realtors’ Disaster Relief Fund, and impacted Realtors may apply to both for assistance.
While Realtor members may apply for aid from the Realtors Relief Foundation, however, the charitable focus is on housing, and renters or owners who are full-time residents and U.S. citizens may request help if it’s specifically related to housing needs. All applicants must submit proof of residency (driver’s license or other government documentation) and a copy of their mortgage statement, mortgage payment coupon book, rent statement or lease agreement to be considered.
The $400,000 in aid money will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis
Relief assistance is limited to a maximum of $1,500 per applicant, per household, through the RRF program. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 31, 2018. Grant checks will be jointly payable to the applicant AND their mortgage lender or landlord.
Housing-related events that qualify for RRF help
- Monthly mortgage expense for a primary residence damaged by Hurricane Michael
- Rental cost due to displacement from a primary residence resulting from Hurricane Michael
Some expenses do not qualify, such as second mortgages or vehicle expenses.
The Realtors Relief Foundation requires proof of damage, which could be any one of the following:
- Photos of damages
- Insurance estimates
- Copies of written claims, settlement proceeds or claim status reports
- Copies of repair estimates from contractors
To apply for Realtors Relief Foundation assistance, print the form or fill it out. (For Realtors, the form can also be found in the Form Simplicity library.)
